I am a Lecturer in the Department of Sociology. I joined Wits in 2013 after completing a PhD in Sociology at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, USA.
My research focuses on labour, livelihoods, and social policy, both in South Africa and comparatively across Africa and the global South. I teach courses on labour and economic development in Sociology. I supervise MA and PhD students in Sociology, as well as in the Development Studies and the Global Labour University programmes.
I chair the School of Social Sciences Research Committee and also sit on the Faculty of Humanities Research Committee and the steering committee of the Global Labour University programme at Wits. I also serve as an editor of the Global Labour Journal.
